Get Bent

What if it is absolutely essential to the perpetuation of the human race for humans to be able to get angry? What if anger is not only a necessary defense mechanism, but an innate survival tool that keeps us alive in times of danger?

I'm not talking rage here, btw, and I'm not talking about being annoyed at someone or something. I'm taking about good old fashioned anger, what you feel when someone steals from you, cheats you out of something, or pushes your buttons.

Now, I don't want to be misconstrued here, I'm not saying that anger is a good thing - I do not believe anger is healthy as it does have a tendency to cloud one's judgement and can lead to rash decisions.

What I'm saying is, what if anger is something that can't be avoided, by anyone, in certain situations? What if that's how human nature works?

We've all heard that a hallmark of one's maturity is how well you can control your anger, which raises a question:

If some idiot crosses three freakin' lanes of traffic and forces you to slam on your brakes in a light snowfall, on a highway that may be icy, is it socially acceptable to honk your horn, roll down your window and yell "@#&-%($!!" as you pass them on the offramp, and then flip them off with both hands? Even if it's an oblivious old lady?

I'm just asking, you know, rhetorically.
