You Have Your Underachievers, Your Achievers...And Your Overachievers

Walking the dogs this afternoon I took note of the various tree houses some of my neighbors have built. It seems my neighbors either do just enough to fulfill the barest requirements, or go completely over the top. Here are four examples upon which I base that statement.

First, we have the basic - a platform built low on a fairly short, easy-to-work-with tree.

Next we have the little extra effort, a platform with a few side rails, and a tarp drawn taught like a tent to provide some shade, built a little higher up a much larger tree.

Then we have the platform deluxe, with sides that actually have siding, and balusters at intervals in the middle of each side to allow for minimal interruptions of the view for shorter tree house inhabitants. Plus, it's stained a deep redwood, and is much further up a large tree.

Finally, we have the all-out super-duper sky-high apartment in the sky, built on a platform lag-bolted to a huge tree that requires a thirty-foot rope ladder for access. It has room aplenty for kids or adults, and features a covered porch complete with code-approved railing. We're talking Swiss Family Overachiever here.
