The Weekend We Crossed Wyoming

Tim Driscoll, John Hines, Chris Bakunas & Carl Marx, Devil's Tower, Wyoming.

We picked up Carl and his toys - GPS, Sirius and all of his cameras
Loaded up on Cheezits, Doritos and Mountain Dew
Up I-25 North just after rush hour
Heading to Rushmore, no-one gave a thought of the tower

Carl drove until we hit Cheyenne
Stopped for fuel and then drove around until we found a Hooters
Knocked backed a few, ate some wings and took pics
Of all us trying hard to look cool with some half-dead chicks

A hip dishwasher convinced us to check out a club
We lost 25 miles and $30.00 to a barn with a dance floor
Back on the road at two A.M. and we catch a flat
John and Tim had it changed in minutes, imagine that

Woke up in Rapid City, in the parking lot
Rushmore wasn't open so we decided on breakfast
A while later we were taking in the big heads of honored Presidents
Drinking Pabst, climbing over barriers and annoying the residents

After lunch we climbed back in the Benz
Took a look at the map and decided to head north
We'd come this far, might as well hit Deadwood
Check out the casinos and Wild Bill's chair, that's all, understood

From there it was a no brainer to continue to Sturgis
A ghost town in April when the hogs aren't on the scene
Short discussion then we decided what the hey
The tower's only 75 more miles down the way

It's a big rock, surrounded by thousands of other rocks
The obligatory Close Encounters jokes were made
Only so much staring at rocks you can do
We headed back to Denver as the sky turned darker blue

Within an hour the rain was falling in buckets
The road was slick and the windshield was opaque
We had 400 miles to cover and the sun was fading
Singing along to the radio each other we were serenading

It was late when we finally made it back
Everyone tired and needing to sleep
Dropped off Carl, then Tim, then John
I think I crawled into bed at the crack of dawn
