A Fairly Normal Level Of Detachment

He had fleeting thoughts about getting out of the house
Maybe pop in at the local, see if anyone he knew was around
Have a drink or two, share a laugh

He had a favorite show coming on at nine though
Didn't want to miss the conclusion of last week's cliffhanger
And besides, he didn't really have anything to wear

And so another week passed
Just like all the other weeks had passed

His days were filled with the dreary and the dull
Mundane minutes that snowballed into mundane hours
He told himself he was content with his quiet normal life

Sometime ago he had a real regular circle of friends
Mates, pals, people he could hang out with
Slowly everyone seemed to have just trickled away

And so another week passed
Just like all the other weeks had passed

Thoughts of reaching out, of picking up the phone
Ran through his mind on a few of the slower afternoons
And just as quickly, those thoughts faded from consideration

There were so many things he had plans to do
So many old friends that he made plans to see
But everyday when he came home he locked the door

And so another week passed
Just like all the other weeks had passed
