The Colorado Department Of Transportation Hates You For Driving

CDOT. Working hard to make the aggravation of your morning commute even more so,,,

Today at approximately 7:20am, just past the on-ramp at Wadsworth, the morning rush-hour traffic came to a complete halt...not for a traffic accident, not because a recently-relocated-from-elsewhere driver is not familiar with the idea that the far left lane is for through traffic (and thus the "fast" lane) or that the far-right lane is for vehicles entering or exiting the freeway (and thus the "slow" lane) & not because a herd of 18 wheelers was jamming up every lane of the road.
Nope, it was nothing as usual as that.

Traffic on eastbound I-70 came to a complete halt this morning solely due to some brainiac at CDOT believing that closing off the far left lane of eastbound I-70 at the heart of the morning rush hour along the primary route used by the residents of the western suburbs to get to the airport, and workers & truckers driving to the warehouse district that parallels I-70 for 8 to 10 miles just past the bottle-necked-at-all-times-during-the-day I-70/I-25 interchange, would be a great time to have large CDOT trucks out power-washing the concrete barrier that separates the east & west bound lanes of the freeway.

I just had to get a photo of this little bit of genius government planning. Fortunately, traffic being at a crawl made that possible
