The Tyranny Of Addiction

The purity or foulness of your soul
In a struggle with imaginary angels and demons for control
Wretchedness or grace of your condition
The ironic travesty of self degradation as an ambition
Everything you have or haven't experienced

Talk your way through the procedure
Of inserting the needle in your arm
Maybe this time you'll get it right

Try, try to face up to the facts of the matter
You throw rocks at windows that refuse to shatter
Everybody has to accept their place in the world eventually
Life is a random assemblage of actions essentially
Why make it anymore difficult that it has to be?

Talk your way through the procedure
Of not procuring that $25.00 bag
maybe this time you'll be able to walk away

What if you hadn't attended that party?
What if you hadn't been raised in poverty?
What if you hadn't asked me for spare change?
What if I hadn't asked you why your eyes looked so strange?
What if you hadn't asked for help?

Talk your way through the procedure
Of standing in line at the methadone clinic
Maybe this time you'll be able to kick it
