These Are The Best Years Of Your Life

                                                Autumn in Colorado, October 2012

There you go again
Thinking you have all the time in the world
To get to all those places you've never been
See to it all those dreams are fulfilled
As soon as you get through this last big deal

Nobody's holding your place in line
Minutes you could spend with friends cannot be DVR'd
No rainchecks are being issued for yesterday's sunshine
Take a walk around the park it's really not that hard
Your life is not going to get any less real

These days, these hours, these minutes
Count them as they pass
They won't be coming back

It's easy, I know, to fall into a rut
Lose sight of what's important and what's a waste
Then one day you wake up and wonder what
Could have been if only you'd hadn't made such haste
To strap yourself permanently to that Catherine Wheel

Build a pile of debt buying what they're selling
On the television and in the glossy magazines
You chained yourself to that desk, you gave up on rebelling
You're the one who aspired to be a man of means
But it's never to late to change the way you feel

These days, these hours, these minutes
Count them as they pass
They won't be coming back
