The First Date

    Friday night. Friday night in America, the first Friday night of 2025.

   Somewhere (or possibly, everywhere) in this great big country there are kids, high school kids, going to a high school football game. They are enjoying cheering on their home team, they are enjoying the company of their friends and possibly their family too.

   Or maybe they are going to the movies, or meeting up at a pizza joint.

   Whatever the case may be, there is something that is absolutely certain.

   Some of those kids will be on dates, first dates, with the either the first person who they were ever asked out by, or with the first person they ever asked out.

   And they are seriously, deliriously, happy.

   They don't know it yet, but eventually they will figure out that the very act of being on a date, a first date specifically (whether as the inviter or the invitee), has set them down a path that could possibly lead them on the most wonderful of adventures, or the most dire.

   So buckle up kiddoes, the ride is a wild one at times, and will both thrill and disappoint you.

   Sometimes both at the same time.

   

The Peanuts Gang Celebrates Oktoberfest!

   My even-bigger-fan-of+Charles+Schulz+than+me neighbor Tony has come out with an Oktoberfest themed Peanuts character display to usher in the month of October.

   Tony (I'll call him Tony because that's his name) moved into the neighborhood about this time last year, and is a very talented craftsman. He cuts out the figures from sheets of plywood, then paints them.

   Since he's moved in he has graced his front yard with Peanuts displays for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, the Fourth of July, and now October(fest).

   All of Tony's displays (I've posted pics of a few) have been great, adding tremendously to the warmth and friendliness of the neighborhood.

   Man, I moved into a great neighborhood 25 years ago, and it's only gotten better over the years. 

 

The Question Answered Itself

 The kid asked me what life was 

              And I replied that life is now

There are many glorious things to remember

                                         About what life was

And there are many fantastics things to dream 

                                         About what life could be

But when it comes down to it

Life is now

               Enjoy it as much as possible

Because while you could have many great memories

               And fantastic dreams are in limitless supply

You only get one now

     Just moments after this picture was taken the drivers of both vehicles (who were both unhurt) walked over to one another and gave each other a hug. Like, a "It could have been so much worse" hug.
