Welcome To The Center Of The World

It's not often one is driving along an interstate freeway and sees a sign off to the side of the road that declares a particular spot as being the center of the world.

But that exact scenario played out for me just a few weeks ago when I was driving along I-8 in the south central corner of the Imperial Valley in California.

The Toughest Town In The Wild, Wild West

If you ever find yourself on I-10 as it meanders through Arizona towards Tucson (from the east or west) you will soon find yourself presented with the opportunity to visit one of the more iconic relics of wild, wild west of the United States.

Only an hour south of Tucson, the small town has been turned into a living monument dedicated to the days of Cowboys, Outlaws, Dance Hall Girls, and of course, Gunfights.

Arizona Murals Part II, The History Of The Town

More murals seen in and around Benson, Arizona, and while not all of these are signed I'm fairly sure they are all by the prolific Doug Quarles.

This post is of the murals that depict the early history of Benson and Cochise County.

 I would be remiss not to mention that the above mural is signed by Doug Quarles with an acknowledgement that it is taken from an original painting by Pablo Alonzo 

A Fistfull Of Murals In Benson, Arizona

Drove through Benson, Arizona and discovered a wealth of murals decorating the buildings of the small town.

There are quite a few of them, most appearing to be painted (and signed) by a gentleman named Doug Quarles.

Mr. Quarles has painted so many murals in Benson that I'm going to have to post the pics of 'em on consecutive posts as I just do not have the time or patience to post all the pics at one sitting.

Today's post will feature the railroad murals.
