There was a time when were all Roman soldiers
Battling the barbarian hordes
At least we imagined ourselves so
Swords made of sticks
Shields made of trashcan lids
Defending our impregnable fortresses
Made of cardboard and tree branches
Dry clods of dirt assailed the walls
As if launched from catapults
