The Doctors were blunt. My Mother was stable, and seemed to be getting better, but it was primarily due to the "pressers". "Pressers" are drugs used to bring low blood pressure and heart rates up, to assist a weakened heart with the job of pumping blood through the body.
Pressers, however, are not something that can be used indeterminately. Pressers begin to be a burden to the body after a short period of use, and if the body is not successfully weaned off the pressers, serious damage can be incurred.
Which can be fatal.
Of course, without the pressers, the heart can give out, which of course is also fatal.
My Mother, at a time when she was alert and lucid, signed a DNR, The Doctors explained that to us, and explained clearly what our options would be.
It has been a difficult past few days. I've tried to distract myself, I've tried to come to terms with the reality.
It has been hell.
