Women Want Equal Rights...They Do Not Want Equal Treatment
Tonight I was out with B & T, It was a fairly special night for us, as it commemorated the birthday of a man we knew as a brother who has passed away.
But that is not the point. The point is this. At one of the bars we were at, we observed two women sitting next to two men they did not know and, before either of the women actually introduced themselves, the one closest to one of the men took a drink from his glass, flirtatiously-like
Know what happened after that? Nothing, shits and giggles.
Well, B and I decided to try to duplicate that action at the next bar we hit. We sat next to a couple of women, and I took a sip (flirtatiously) from her drink - through a small black straw.
Know what happened? Supernova explosion. Accusations of trying to drug her drink, etc.
Women, as a gender, can be extremely hypocritical. Flat out double-standard city.

Something Mopey This Way Comes
The whole world seems to be painted grey
Those days when you just barely scrape along
Nothing alive around you, only despair and decay
Grass is dead beneath your feet, birds don't sing in the trees
Petals fall off roses, the sun has abandoned the day
Though I loudly protest
I cannot claim
To have been free
From any blame
As Will proclaimed
Through the mouth of Cassius
The fault is not in stars, but ours
The fault is in our humanness
We all have aspirations
We all have plans and schemes
We all wake up in the morning
Hoping that life is more than just half-remembered dreams
And the truth is sometimes everything feels all wrong
The whole world seems to be painted grey
Those days when you just barely scrape along
Nothing alive around you, only despair and decay
Grass is dead beneath your feet, birds don't sing in the trees
Petals fall off roses, the sun has abandoned the day
Hours After The Nick Of Time
Every wry thought that was ever left unspoken
Intended to be voiced but abandoned
To that great unmarked graveyard
That overflows with witticisms
Insightful observations
Charming quips
Apt words
That
Failed to
Come to mind
At the right moment
Instead, waiting until 3:00am
To make a much too-late appearance
In the conversation that ended hours ago
Leaving only you to appreciate your ironic humor

I Really Hate That Chicken
Watched the 86th Academy Awards tonight, and, well, they were a bit disappointing. There were no surprises, and Ellen DeGeneres, hosting for the second time, was flat, well off her game as the pixie/tomboy.
Just about the only thing that held my interest during the broadcast, other that Martin Scorsese's eyebrows, was the epic foreshadowing of the eventual selection of the Best Picture winner. The start of the Spanish/American war was not as well telegraphed.
Of course, Best Picture is always a contrived toss-up. There are usually 3 or 4 films every year that deserve the award, and usually it's sentiment or political mood that has the final say - Oscar history is rife with glaring omissions and films that won due to patronage or politics.
Take tonight for instance. The single most entertaining film of 2013, and not just in my opinion as it earned almost a billion dollars at the international box-office, did not win a single award.
The film? Despicable Me 2, which, even though it was a sequel, was still a terrific film. It did not illuminate a horrible transgression against humanity that occurred 160 years ago, it did not feature dramatic interaction between family members who possess polar opposite personality traits, it did not fictionalize (and fabricate an alternate reality for) an FBI investigation into corruption in 1970's New Jersey, it didn't explore a worst case scenario for an astronaut, and it didn't plagiarize a Twilight Zone episode about a person falling in love with a computer (albeit turned inside out).
It was just entertaining.
Which is all I want these days. Hell, half the rational for watching the Academy Awards show is the entertainment derived from the missteps and miscues.
And the low-cut dresses, of course.

Describe Your Childhood In One Word
The question was asked. Is there one word that could describe your childhood? The answer came to mind quickly.
Confused.
In fact, that word so aptly covers my entire childhood, there isn't even an acceptable substitute. I was as confused as a boy could get for what seemed like eternity. It was literally my 30th birthday before the confusion began to subside.
The question was asked, why were you so confused? Well, it was a tumultuous time, the era classified as the '70's - very tumultuous - perhaps not for everyone, but it was for me.
I was raised by four women (Mom and 3 older sisters), and zero men. In a suburban ghetto in Southern California. I used to kid myself that it wasn't so bad, but now, having a few miles on me and all that goes with it, I realize that yeah, it sucked.
Fortunately, I made it through that mess and I have a pretty damn good life now. In fact, I've had a pretty damn good life for awhile now. Hell, I have to be the luckiest guy I know.
I haven't won the lottery or anything like that, but what hasn't happened to me that has happened to people I know...that's huge, that's pretty much like winning the lottery.
On top of that, I have a cool cat and two cool dogs that like to hang out with me on occasion.
