Memory Of A Resolved Past

She had those deep russet eyes
That break grown men down
A smile that could melt glaciers
In the heart of the coldest, cruelest of winters
When gravity's pull seemed to double
Her touch overwhelmed the heaviest anchors
Floating monoliths like soap bubbles
When the sun seemed to be
                     Stolen from the sky
Her voice was incandescent in a world bleak
Days on end and hour after hour
Talking about everything while balanced on a bower
Just to hear each other speak
                     Sneaking away to private places
                     To practice the traditional disgraces
                     Scrupulously avoiding original sin
Reading Shakespeare to one another
Playing Costard and Jaquenetta
                     Aching for the chance when
                     We could be alone together
Walking through an asphalt garden on a concrete lawn
Listening to songs recorded live at Budokan
Watching a clandestine matinee
Video arcades on an August Saturday
                     Soaring high on carnival rides
                     Sunday afternoon trips to Riverside
Climbing the gate on a warm summer's night
To swim surreptitiously in the moonlight
It was a different time, a different life
                      The moments were magical
In a time of doubt and strife
