This Is Not Just Another Thursday
There is, in fact, no such thing as just another day. Every single freakin' last day you get on this glorious rock floating amidst the cosmos is a unique and wonderful gift.
That's right, I'm here to blow puppies and kittens up your caboose today.
Today I enjoyed the view above on the way into the store, spent a bit of constructive time at work, met three really nice people, ate a fantastic sandwich (The Replacements at the D-Note in Arvada - Yum!), raked up leaves in the backyard while throwing the ball for the dogs - and managed to get a bit of studying done. All told, it was a great day.
However...even if I hadn't done any of the aforementioned, even if all I did today was lay around the house watching television and eating Bon-Bons, it would have still been a great day.
Simply because, as a mostly healthy man with a fair amount of good things going on, life is really golden.
I read the news, I watch the news. The news business is basically the recording of bad stuff - car bombs and bank robberies, domestic violence and missing children. Everything that can make one think that life sucks.
But the thing is, what is being reported and recorded is pretty much the least likely things - all the crap that is least likely to ever come your way.
Not one reporter sat in front of a camera today and spoke the words, "Millions of school children went to class today without carrying weapons of any kind."
But that is exactly what happened, and we know that because if one kid, one slightly pushed, pissed, or maybe even genuinely disturbed kid, had brought so much as a pocketknife to school today, it would be all over the 'net and the papers.
Today was a day inwhich many bad things happened, to many, many people. That's an inescapable truth. However, today was also a day when many good, maybe even actually great things, happened to many, many people. That is also an inescapable truth,
Celebrate that.
