Welcome To The Home Of The Best Public Art In Colorado...Welcome To Colorado Springs

Continuum, The Julie Penrose Fountain in America the Beautiful park, Colorado Springs

The picture above is of a four story tall, 24 ton steel structure with 366 spray jets raining down water on an undulating concrete catch basin (that sends the water through a re-circulater). It was selected by the citizens of Colorado Springs in 2001 from 162 submissions that came from artists all around the world. It is situated in the heart of America the Beautiful park and was dedicated in 2007.

It was designed by artist Bill Burgess and architect David Barber, and built by Springs Fabrication. It was funded via donations from the citizens of Colorado Springs and the El Pomar foundation, and it may well be the best public art in the state of Colorado.

Plus, it rotates...four times an hour.

As one might expect, like most cities of almost half a million people there is quite a bit of public art in Colorado Springs.

What I didn't expect was how good most of it is.
