Another Year, Another Celebration Of The Day That Scared The Bejezus Out Of Royal Families Around The World

Here it is, the day people all over the United States of American fire up bar-be-ques and fireworks to celebrate and commemorate the 248th anniversary of the day 56 landowning men of European descent (representing every single resident of the then 13 colonies, all of whom were legally regarded as subjects of the King of England, and thus parties to treachery punishable by death) decided to flip ol' King George the III the bird and cast off the political bands which connected them to the Kingdom of Great Britain, and to pursue the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and Nature's God entitled them (to paraphrase Thomas Jefferson and his introduction to the most important document ever written).

I never get tired of celebrating this day, and hopefully never will.

The U.S. Declaration of Independence sparked what the royal families of Europe feared more than God or the Devil. It sparked the desire to embrace democracy as a means of government, and a desire to bring an end to inherited rule, by millions of ordinary people who had pretty much become tired of being "subjects" of a crown and instead wanted to be citizens of a free country.

Two hundred and forty eight years later the battle for freedom still is being fought on many fronts. However, incredible progress has been made, as now, in the year 2024, the vast majority of the world is free from monarchial or royalist governments - democratic rule is pervasive, effectively the rule for about 92% of the world's population (according to these guys - http://www.royaltymonarchy.com/monfacts/monpop.html)

Not bad for a system of government that is relatively still in it's infancy.
